ILXQuant Semiconductor Capital Equipment Basket Index
Fixed-basket index of 21 companies selling the tools that make chips -- the highest-margin and most concentrated layer of the semiconductor industry, where a handful of firms hold effective monopolies on single process steps. Five process layers are represented: lithography, patterning and bonding (ASML, BE Semiconductor, SUSS MicroTec, Hanmi Semiconductor), deposition and etch (Applied Materials, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron, ASM International, Jusung), clean, planarisation and dicing (SCREEN, Disco, Ebara), metrology and inspection (KLA, Lasertec, Nova, Camtek, PVA TePla) and implant, probe and burn-in test (Axcelis, Advantest, FormFactor, Aehr). Advanced packaging is the fastest-growing sub-segment -- high-bandwidth memory stacks and chiplets shift value from front-end wafer tools to back-end bonders, where the Dutch, Japanese and Korean names dominate. Rebalances quarterly to equal weight. Non-USD holdings are converted to USD.
